The whole 2026 capital-market year, in one place. It groups every trading holiday by the month it falls in. It also carries the sessions the exchange held outside Monday to Friday. The settlements that move because of them are here too. The equity and equity-derivative (F&O) segments follow the same trading-holiday list. All dates are in IST.
Trading holidays by month (16)
Grouped by the month each closure falls in. In 2026 the NSE capital market does not trade at all on 16 weekdays. That is on top of every Saturday and Sunday.
Each file lists the circular for every date and the day the list was last checked.

Special sessions (2)
Sometimes the exchange publishes a session outside the normal Monday-to-Friday schedule. That circular's own timing then applies. This is how a Sunday can be a trading day. It is also why the weekend rule is a default rather than an absolute.

| Sun, 1 Feb, 2026 | Special live trading sessionNSE conducted a live Sunday session. Always check the exact circular before relying on it. | Open | Normal market 09:15–15:30 | NSE/CMTR/72349 |

Weekend dates of note (4)
Holidays the calendar names that land on a Saturday or a Sunday. They sit apart from the month tables above for one reason. The market is already shut on those days, so they take away no trading session that would otherwise have existed.
| Date | Day | Occasion |
|---|---|---|
| Sun, 15 Feb, 2026 | Sunday | Mahashivratri |
| Sat, 21 Mar, 2026 | Saturday | Id-Ul-Fitr (Ramadan Eid) |
| Sat, 15 Aug, 2026 | Saturday | Independence Day |
| Sun, 8 Nov, 2026 | Sunday | Diwali Laxmi Pujan |
Settlement exceptions (1)
A trading holiday and a settlement holiday are different things. This is where the two meet. It lists a trade date whose settlement the clearing corporation has published as moving away from the normal rolling cycle.
| Trade date | Cycle | Settles on | Reason | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wed, 14 Jan, 2026 | T+1 | Fri, 16 Jan, 2026 | 15 Jan 2026 became a trading and settlement holiday, so trades from 14 Jan settle on 16 Jan. | NCL/CMPT/72278 |
NSE market calendar 2026 FAQ
Is the Indian stock market open this Friday?
Fridays are otherwise regular trading days. Whether the NSE and BSE are open on a given Friday depends on one thing: whether that date falls on a published exchange trading holiday. You can confirm it by checking the date against the official NSE/BSE holiday calendar for the current year. The holidays page reflects that calendar. If the Friday is not listed as a holiday, the cash and F&O segments follow normal hours.
Is NSE open on weekends?
The NSE cash and equity derivatives (F&O) segments are closed on Saturdays and Sundays as a standard rule. Trading normally runs Monday through Friday, except on declared exchange holidays. Some exchanges occasionally run special weekend sessions, such as scheduled disaster-recovery or mock-trading sessions. These are announced separately and are not regular trading days.
What are the Muhurat trading timings for Diwali 2026?
NSE holds the Diwali Muhurat session on Sunday 8 November 2026. Its own circular, NSE/CMTR/76941 (19 October 2026), sets the time of every stage, from pre-open to post-close. The special sessions table on this page lists each time. The Muhurat guide explains them in simple words. These times are for NSE equity. F&O and BSE have their own notices.
When is the next NSE market holiday?
The next NSE market holiday is the nearest upcoming date on the exchange's official trading-holiday list. That list runs for the current calendar year. The holidays page lists these dates in order. The next closed day is the first one falling after today. Note that a holiday may apply to specific segments. The cash and derivatives segments and settlement holidays can differ.
Are NSE and BSE holidays the same?
For most trading holidays, the NSE and BSE publish identical dates. Both exchanges generally align their calendars for major national and festival holidays. Differences can occasionally appear in settlement holidays. They can also appear in segment-specific schedules such as currency or commodity trading. Checking each exchange's official calendar confirms whether a particular date applies to both.
Why is the stock market closed on some weekdays?
The NSE and BSE close on certain weekdays because those dates are listed as trading holidays. They cover national holidays and major festivals, as published in the annual exchange holiday list. These are scheduled in advance, separate from weekend closures. Unscheduled closures can also occur in rare cases. The exchanges announce those through official circulars.
