The Nifty expiry date is Tuesday. NIFTY options expire every week, so 2026 has 52 NIFTY expiry days. BANKNIFTY options expire once a month, on the last Tuesday, so 2026 has 12. When that Tuesday is a trading holiday, the expiry moves back to the trading day before it. That happens 8 times in 2026.
Other F&O expiry dates

How the Nifty expiry date is set
What expiry day is
Expiry day is the last day an option contract can trade. At the close that day, the contract ends and is settled in cash.
The exchange sets the day in circular NSE/FAOP/68747. Index options expire on a Tuesday. NIFTY has a new contract every week. BANKNIFTY has one contract a month.
NIFTY has a monthly contract too. It is the weekly contract that falls on the last Tuesday of the month, marked Monthly in the table.
Why an expiry date moves
Sometimes a Tuesday is a trading holiday. The market is shut, so nothing can expire that day. The contract then expires on the trading day before. That is usually Monday. If Monday is a holiday too, it goes back to Friday.
What happens after expiry
Index options settle in cash. No shares change hands. The Market X-Ray below shows what an option pays at expiry.
When a date cannot be confirmed
A date is shown only when the holiday list covers it. If a special session leaves a day unclear, its row says Not confirmed. A date is never guessed.

What is the Bank Nifty expiry date?
Bank Nifty options expire once a month, on the last Tuesday of the month. So 2026 has 12 BANKNIFTY expiry days.
What is the Sensex expiry day?
SENSEX options trade on BSE and expire every Thursday. The monthly contract expires on the last Thursday of the month.
Do all index options expire on the same day?
No. NSE index contracts expire on a Tuesday and BSE contracts on a Thursday. The Other F&O expiry dates table above lists each contract.
