Published Updated
US stock market timings in India for 2026, in IST. See the 1 November clock change, NYSE holidays, early closes and the next-day close.
US stock market timings in India change twice a year. The US stock market opens at 7:00 pm IST and closes at 1:30 am IST the next day while US daylight saving time lasts. From Monday, 2 November 2026, it opens at 8:00 pm IST and closes at 2:30 am IST the next day. Weekends, US holidays and early-close days are the exceptions. This guide gives the 2026 dates for each.
- The regular session runs 9:30 am to 4:00 pm New York time. In US daylight time that is 7:00 pm to 1:30 am IST.
- US daylight saving time ends on Sunday, 1 November 2026. From Monday, 2 November 2026, the session runs 8:00 pm to 2:30 am IST.
- The close falls on the next Indian date. A Monday session in New York ends early on Tuesday in India.
- Still ahead in 2026: 2 full holidays and 2 early-close days, listed below in IST.
What time does the US stock market open in India?
The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and Nasdaq run their regular stock session from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm New York time. New York time is also called Eastern Time, or ET. The session runs Monday to Friday, except on exchange holidays.
India keeps the same clock all year. New York changes its clock twice a year. So the same New York opening falls at 7:00 pm IST for part of the year and at 8:00 pm IST for the rest.
| 2026 dates | US clock | Opens in India | Closes in India |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 January to 7 March | Standard time (EST) | 8:00 pm IST | 2:30 am IST, next day |
| 8 March to 31 October | Daylight saving time (EDT) | 7:00 pm IST | 1:30 am IST, next day |
| 1 November to 31 December | Standard time (EST) | 8:00 pm IST | 2:30 am IST, next day |
Next day means the next date on the Indian calendar. A Monday session in New York closes in the early hours of Tuesday in India.
From Monday, 2 November 2026, the regular session runs from 8:00 pm to 2:30 am IST, next day.
Does the US market time change in November 2026?
Yes. US daylight saving time ends on Sunday, 1 November 2026. New York moves its clocks back by one hour that night. NIST, the US government's time agency, publishes these dates.
The first regular session after the change is on Monday, 2 November 2026. From that day the opening moves from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm IST. The close moves from 1:30 am to 2:30 am IST.
The session does not get longer or shorter. It still runs for 6 hours 30 minutes in New York. Only the gap between the two clocks changes, from 9 hours 30 minutes to 10 hours 30 minutes.
- US daylight saving time starts on the second Sunday of March. In 2026 that was Sunday, 8 March 2026.
- It ends on the first Sunday of November. In 2026 that is Sunday, 1 November 2026.
- EDT is New York's daylight time. EST is its standard time.
- India stays on IST all year. IST is 5 hours 30 minutes ahead of UTC, the world's reference clock.
US stock market holidays 2026

| Monday, 16 February 2026 | Washington's Birthday (Presidents Day) |

2 of these holidays are still ahead after 21 October 2026. There are also 2 days with a shorter session. On those days the regular session ends at 1:00 pm New York time, which is 11:30 pm IST.
| US date | What happens | Regular session in India (IST) |

What are the pre-market and after-hours times in India?
Some trading happens outside the regular session. Pre-market comes before the regular open. After-hours comes after the regular close. Nasdaq publishes the windows below.
| Session | New York time (ET) | India, US daylight time | India, US standard time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pre-market | 4:00 am to 9:30 am | 1:30 pm to 7:00 pm | 2:30 pm to 8:00 pm |
| Regular session | 9:30 am to 4:00 pm | 7:00 pm to 1:30 am, next day | 8:00 pm to 2:30 am, next day |
| After-hours | 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm | 1:30 am to 5:30 am, next day | 2:30 am to 6:30 am, next day |
Your broker may offer a shorter window, different order rules or no extended session at all. The exchange window is the outer limit, not a promise of access.
Why a moving price does not mean your order will fill
A share price can move on a screen before the regular session opens. That does not mean you can trade at that time or at that price.
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) explains this in an investor bulletin. Outside the regular session there are often fewer buyers and sellers. Prices can jump more, and an order is less likely to fill.
- is how easily a buyer and a seller can find each other at a fair price. Less liquidity makes a fill harder.
- A limit order sets the highest price you will pay, or the lowest price you will take. It controls the price. It does not promise a trade.
- Many brokers accept only limit orders outside the regular session.
A price on a screen shows a past trade. It does not promise that your next order fills at that price.
Does my broker follow these US market timings?
The exchange hours are the same for everyone. Brokers in India that offer US stocks usually show the same regular-session times in IST. What can differ is what your broker supports.
- Check which sessions your broker allows. It may be the regular session only, or pre-market and after-hours too.
- Check which order types work in each session.
- Check what happens to an order that does not fill. It may expire at the close or wait for the next session.
- Check your broker's own notices for holidays and cut-off times.
The midnight mistake: a simple example
Imagine it is 12:30 am IST on Tuesday, 3 November 2026. In New York it is 2:00 pm on Monday, 2 November 2026. Monday's regular session is still running. It ends at 2:30 am IST on Tuesday.
The same idea explains Friday night. A normal Friday session in New York runs into early Saturday in India. That is still Friday's session. There is no regular US session on a Saturday.
Write both dates in your notes. For example: US session on Monday, 2 November 2026, closing in India on Tuesday, 3 November 2026 at 2:30 am.
A $20 gain is not always your final profit
Getting the time right is one part. The cost is another. Here is a simple example in US dollars, before income tax. The costs are assumptions for this example, not any broker's real charges.
| Step | Amount |
|---|---|
| Price gain before costs | +$20 |
| Assumed brokerage and fees on the buy and the sell | −$2 |
| Assumed currency and transfer costs for this trade | −$6 |
| Result after these assumed costs | +$12 |
The exchange rate when you bring the money back can also change the result in rupees. A transfer fee is paid once, so count it once across the trades it covered.
Use a US-specific calculation for a US trade. An Indian charge table does not apply to it. Our US stocks charges calculator works out brokerage, US fees, the exchange rate and TCS, which means tax collected at source.
Before you rely on US stock market timings in India
- Check the US date, not only the Indian date.
- Check which clock period it is: US daylight time or US standard time.
- Check the holiday and early-close list for that date.
- Check which sessions and order types your broker supports.
- Check the order status after you place an order.
For 2026, remember 7:00 pm IST in US daylight time and 8:00 pm IST in US standard time. Then add the Indian closing date and check the holiday list.
